​​His Royal Highness, King Elexis I, Richard Demetrice Edwards Jr. is the son of Felicia Thomas and Richard Edwards Sr. King Richard is the grandson of the late Mr. Matthew Thomas & the late Mrs. Betty Brown Thomas, Ms. Leitha Mae Edwards and the late Mr. Richard Whitsett. King Richard has five Siblings Matthew Gibbs, Zoria Hunter, Tonecia Marzette, Morgan Reese and Tyler Reese.  A 2013 graduate of John L. LeFlore Magnet High Scholl, Richard graduated with honors distinction with a pre-law concentration.

King Richard was very active in school and community based organizations, he participated in Spring Hill College’s Upward Bound, S.T.A.R.S and S.T.R.I.P.E.S student excellence program at he University of South Alabama, The Mobile Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Le Beautillion, and Culturama. He also served as an escort for the Striker’s Club Inc. After high school, he matriculated to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing with a minor in Public Relations. While at UAB, King Richard continued cultivating his leadership skills by participating in the 4th cohort of Blazer Male Excellence Network and was named a marketing champion for Regions Financial Institution of Midtown-Atlanta. He completed his undergraduate studies by interning as the marketing specialist for Hibbett Sporting Goods.

King Richard’s association with MAMGA started in 2011, when he served as a Junior Knight and 2020 as the 2nd Knight to King Quinterris Toppings and Queen Rosemary Elaine Dunning. His cousin Gabrielle Smith served as the 2010 Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association’s Junior Monarch Queen.

King Richard’s proudest life moments includes, being one of the first males in his family to obtain a college degree, becoming a successful fashion and image consultant, brand ambassador and principle buyer for Saint Laurent at Saks Fifth Avenue of Atlanta, and creating his fashion brand Cr’m clothing alongside his cousin First Knight Dominique Crum. King Richard is truly honored to be able to fulfill his childhood dream by representing The Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association as King Elexis I. Currently, he is expanding his professional portfolio by styling several high profile, A List celebrities and music artists. His diverse background and breadth of the fashion industry has yielded several of his clients being listed as best dressed by multiple publications.

King Richard is dedicating his reign as King Elexis I to his grandparents the late Mrs. Betty Brown Thomas and Mr. Richard Whitsett, and his best friend the late Anthony Bunn. King Richard’s favorite quote is one by Kanye West, “Most people are slowed down by the perception of themselves. If you're taught you can't do anything, you won't do anything. I was taught I can do everything".

King Richard drew inspiration from Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia and Arabian culture to complete the theme of his regal attire.
